Richard Hudson
Richard joined ABC's Rural team in WA in 2000. He started in Perth, worked briefly in Geraldton and then had a six month stint in Victoria's Goulburn/Murray region.
He then spent almost eight years in Cairns doing the North Queensland Rural Report, where he met some fascinating people who taught him how to plant sugar-cane, eat rollinias, catch beche-de-mer (sea cucumber) hand milk a cow and survive a category five cyclone.
In 2007 Richard was appointed Executive Producer of Rural WA.
He enjoys nothing better than spending an evening chewing the fat with locals in a small rural town, finding out what's really going on.
Richard's first career revolved around sport but now people are his passion. (Especially if they like wearing purple, red and green)
When Richard was in his 20's he worked and travelled in Europe for five years.
He still has the gypsy spirit but he now has three young girls who each day, demand to know where he is going. He still loves to exercise so in an ideal world he would like to travel on his brown push-bike from one WA town to the next, with broadcasting equipment tucked inside his panniers. (Of course, ABC occupational health and safety regulations wouldn't allow him to tow a bike trailer carrying screaming kids.)
