One of the most impressive Hottest 100 records has officially been broken by none other than our collective mother, Kylie Minogue.
With her 2023 floorfiller earworm 'Padam Padam' coming in at #48, Kylie has smashed the record for the longest time between appearances in the annual countdown.
Kylie was a bit of a regular in the countdown in the mid-90s, with 'Confide In Me' coming in at #30 in 1994 and her Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds duet 'Where the Wild Roses Grow' cracking the top 10 in 1995 at #8.
But the last time Kylie clocked a spot in the Hottest 100 was way back in 1997 with 'Did It Again', which came in at #81. That means it's been a monstrous 27 years since the undisputed Aussie queen of pop featured in the countdown.
It also means that she's cracked the record for the artist with the longest time between drinks in the Hottest 100. It's a record previously held by Slipknot when they charted with 'Unsainted' at #86 in 2019, some 19 years after their appearance in 2000 with #75's 'Wait And Bleed'.
So Kylie Minogue hasn't simply broken this massive record, she's completely smashed it out of the park. Demolished it to smithereens. Eviscerated it off the face of the earth. She's gone and put nearly a whole decade between herself and the masked shred lords.
While Kylie hadn't featured in the Hottest 100 for nearly three decades, she's still very beloved by many in the extended triple j universe. She's been covered several times in gorgeous Like A Version entries, by everyone from Peking Duk to PANIA.
And heaven forbid we forget Tame Impala's 2015 rendition of her original Hottest 100-charting track, 1994's 'Confide In Me'.
There are not many people who could top this achievement of Kylie's. We can't imagine Dennis Leary, Morrissey, King Missile, Mazzy Star, Chumbawumba or Crash Test Dummies will make another appearance — all of whom could theoretically break this record.
So it's pretty safe to say that the record for Longest Time Between Hottest 100 Appearances goes to the one, the only, my mother and yours – Kylie Minogue.
PADAM.
