A cold case investigation has resulted in a 62-year-old man being charged over the alleged abduction of a teenage girl in the Lake Macquarie region of New South Wales in the 1980s.
Key points:
- Warren John McCorriston is accused of abducting a teenager in 1980
- His arrest followed an investigation into the unrelated disappearances of three other teens
- Mr McCorriston has been refused bail
NSW Police set up a strike force in 2019 to re-examine the disappearance and suspected murders of teenagers Robyn Hickie, Amanda Robinson and Gordana Kotevski.
Police said information gathered during recent inquires led detectives to arrest Warren John McCorriston over a separate matter in Sydney on Monday.
There is no suggestion Mr McCorriston was involved in the disappearance of Ms Hickie, Amanda or Gordana.
He has been charged with four offences that police allege involved a different 16-year-old girl who was not known to him and occurred in the Gateshead area in 1980.
The charges include abducting a woman with the intention of sexually assaulting her and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
The case was heard in Belmont Local Court on Tuesday where bail was formally refused.
Mr McCorriston is set to face Newcastle Local Court in March.
Gordana, 16, went missing from Charlestown in 1994.
Ms Hickie, 18, and Amanda, 14, disappeared from Belmont North and Swansea, respectively, in 1979.
