The South Australian Animal Welfare League says it has had a chaotic 12 hours with 25 terrified dogs delivered to its shelter at Wingfield, in Adelaide's western suburbs.
The dogs have arrived after escaping from homes while being frightened by New Year's Eve fireworks.
Another 60 pet owners have reported their dogs missing.
A spokesman says many tearful owners have visited their shelter today looking for dogs lost during the night.
